What is migraine?

Stress – This life is full of stress and people do not even try much to change it. Gradually all this starts turning into migraine. When one goes from a normal situation to a stressful environment, headache increases and blood pressure starts becoming high. Migraine occurs more often due to major diseases like blood pressure, blood sugar and stress etc. Migraine pain can last from a few hours to three days. Cold, virus and fever also become causes of headache.

Hormones – This occurs due to natural changes or imbalance of hormones. This happens especially in women, where headache occurs due to decrease in the level of estrogen hormone. Women may have headaches during or before their periods.

Unbalanced foods – Some unbalanced foods like beer, red wine, chocolate, cheese, aspartame, monosodium glutamate and excessive caffeine also cause migraine.

Natural environment – Severe pain due to natural environment such as strong sunlight, blinking of eyes due to sunlight, loud noise, perfume, smell (paint, thinner, smoke) etc.

Prevention Tips for Migraine
To avoid migraine or recurring occurrences, the risk of migraine can be reduced to some extent by making some changes in your lifestyle and diet.

-Always avoid changes in temperature, like if you use air conditioner in summer, then do not go from cold to hot suddenly and do not drink very cold water after returning from extreme heat.

-If you are going out in strong sunlight during the summer season, then avoid direct sunlight and use sunglasses or an umbrella.

-Avoid traveling as much as possible during the summer season.

-Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily otherwise you may get dehydrated because dehydration is the biggest cause of migraine problem, so drink as much water as possible.

-In humid weather, avoid eating things that cause excessive sweating like tea , coffee etc.

-Do not eat too much chilli, maintain blood pressure and do not take contraceptive pills. If you have to take contraceptive pills then take them in low doses.

-Go for a walk every morning, walk barefoot on the grass because it reduces stress and if stress is less then hormones will also remain in balance, which also reduces migraine.

Do Yogasana or Pranayama for 30 minutes daily, it will give you a lot of benefit, doing meditation for 10 minutes daily is also very beneficial for us.

-Migraine patients should drink plenty of fluids i.e. soup, lemon water, coconut water, buttermilk , lassi etc.

-Eat plenty of fruits and green vegetables.

-Take salt in less quantity. Half a teaspoon of salt a day is enough because most food items contain salt in itself.

-Avoid taking tea, coffee and cold drinks etc. Taking these may increase migraine.

-Avoid consumption of alcohol and chocolate. These also cause headache.

-Extremely oily and spicy food and fasting also increase the problem of migraine, so avoid it.

-Exercise improves sleep and reduces the frequency and intensity of migraine headaches; staying indoors and cycling is beneficial for migraine sufferers. Cardiovascular exercise is a great way to break the feeling of being frozen and ‘stuck’ that migraine sufferers experience before an attack.
